From the Head’s Study

It is hard to believe that we are already coming to the end of a busy and fulfilling first half of term.  We have packed in so many opportunities and experiences and thank everyone for their efforts in enabling us to start so positively and productively.

Thank you to everyone who supported our World Mental Health campaign on Tuesday, wearing yellow to fund the good work carried out by the charity, Young Minds.  We raised nearly £350 bringing our total charitable contributions this term to almost £1000, excluding all the food donations given at our Harvest Festival.  It is so important that we continue to focus on giving back to others and showing support for those in need.

We had a spooktacular time at the PFA organised Halloween discos.  The children had so much fun and we cannot thank all the PFA volunteers enough for their time in organising this special occasion.  Thank you to Mr Pullman for being our resident DJ and entertainment for the evening.

On that note, I do hope that you are able to attend our forthcoming Bonfire Party on the 3rd November and our Quiz Night on Friday 10th November.  Both events will provide opportunities to come together as a community whilst raising money for the PFA, funding future experiences for our children.  I am very much looking forward to hosting the quiz and there are more details contained within the newsletter so please rally your teams and let’s make it a night to remember.

Finally, we are holding two Open Days in November.  Our Early Years event takes place on the 1st November (4pm-6pm) and Whole School on 4th November (10am-12pm).  Please do share these dates with friends, family and contacts who may be interested in visiting us.  It is an ideal opportunity for any parents who have not yet toured the school themselves and would like to do so.  We offer a £500 loyalty payment for any successful referrals which lead to a registration as part of our Friends & Family Scheme so please do spread the word far and wide.

I wish you all a wonderful half term break and we look forward to welcoming boarders back on the evening of Sunday 29th October and all other children on Monday 30th October.

Wear it Yellow Day

Thank you to everyone who supported our #Hello Yellow campaign in aid of World Mental Health Day.  Our final total came close to £350 raised for Young Minds and this means that more children will be able to access emotional and mental health support in schools across the UK.

PFA Halloween Disco

Thank you to the PFA for their hard work in organising our Halloween Discos for the children.  It was wonderful to see the children in costumes having so much fun.  It was a great way to celebrate the end of our first half term.

Lyndon represents WHD at the Regionals

Congratulations to Lyndon for representing our school in a major regional competition. Over 200 aspiring athletes from schools across the South East took part in one of the GB Biathlons qualifying rounds, ahead of the National finals due to be held in March. Lyndon came first in his 25m swim, smashing not only his personal best but getting a considerable lead on the rest of the competition with an amazing 17.65 second time. This was followed by a fantastic 400m run, where Lyndon overtook 4 competitors on the final bend to come fourth place in his year group. Final results are announced in December, but he has a strong bid for a place in the finals! We are so proud of all he has achieved, testament to his hard work!

Year 1 and 2 Success at Margate FC

Congratulations to our Pre-Prep Football Team for their success and teamwork at the Thanet Passport tournament. The A Team won all four matches and Dominik (Year 1) was Man of the Match. The B Team lost three matches and drew one with Coco (Year 2) being woman of the match. We are so proud of both teams. They played with the right attitude and sporting values – the future is definitely bright.

Data Check

On the Parent Portal we have enabled a feature called ‘Data Check’ which allows parents to review and amend the details we hold on themselves and their children. This is great if you realise you have changed your mobile number, but not told the office, or if your child has a new allergy that we do not yet know about. When you next login you will be asked to perform the data check. This is currently in BETA and your feedback is appreciated. Please can we ask that particular attention is given to the medical section.

Mark Reading

Our first Mark Reading of the academic year was announced in Assembly on Tuesday morning.  All children in Years 4 to 8 were given “industry” grades by their teachers based on their efforts and attitude in the classroom and with preps.  You can view your child’s report by logging on to the parent portal.

Well done to the following children who achieved the top average in their respective year groups: Amber Hutchinson, Izzy James, Emmy Dobbs, Paula Arsuaga Reano, Ines Arsuaga Reano and Freya Ralph.

The highest scoring form group was 6E.

The overall aggregate House standings, including good and improvement marks are as follows:

2nd – Viking

3rd – Kingsgate

4th – Stone

Reminders

We wanted to stress the importance of weekly swimming lessons for our children, particularly as we live by the coast.  If children are well and are in school, we expect all children to take part in swimming lessons.  Mrs Crompton and her team are very experienced in supporting reluctant and nervous swimmers so there is no need to worry.  Thank you for your support in this matter.

School Uniform Shop

We have a range of preloved uniform items available in our uniform shop.  Please contact Liz Dilkes, Chair of the PFA, to arrange an appointment.

Safeguarding Reminder

This is another reminder that dogs should be kept on leads at all times.
