Welcome to the Pre-Prep at Wellesley Haddon Dene! Our small class sizes and family atmosphere ensures that each pupil feels happy, safe, and welcome. Our teachers know all pupils throughout the school, not only their class, and so we foster an atmosphere where each teacher is approachable, and your child knows their teachers will take the time to listen.
Strong and constructive relationships with parents, combined with our open door policy, ensures that parents and the school can work together to ensure the best pastoral support for their child, and any child’s difficulties can be supported and helped.
Our curriculum is tailored to the children’s individual interests and needs, the subject matter of topic-led learning changes depending on the cohort. Phonics is introduced in our nursery. Alongside the need to learn the skills of decoding for reading, we value pleasure for reading and children are encouraged to choose books from our library and all teachers read aloud to classes on a daily basis. Our maths teaching is practical and hands on, with children progressing from using concrete materials to pictorial representations and finally abstract concepts. By the time the children reach Year 3 they are taught by many of the subject specialists from the prep school ready for a smooth transition to the main school in Year 4.
Come snow, rain or sunshine our children love being outdoors. Everyone has wellies and wet weather gear to enjoy Wellesley’s seaside location and acres of outdoor space.
We warmly invite you to visit so you can see for yourselves what we can offer.
